PBS Guam announces analog shut-off date
in preparation for DTV transition

(January 20, 2009) - PBS GUAM’s analog channel 12 will cease over-the-air broadcasting on Friday, January 23, 2009 in order for the station’s DTV contractors to re-work the antenna for digital operations.  Households with cable subscriptions will not be affected by this change.

Digital channel 12 pre-broadcasting test periods will commence on February 8, 2009.  Upon full digital conversion on or by February 17, 2009, viewers who watch PBS GUAM over-the-air using yagi and/or rabbit ear antenna must connect a converter box to an analog television set in order to receive digital channel 12.

For more information, contact Mesengei Diaz, TV Engineer, at 734-5483.

ADVISORY OF DTV OPERATIONS TO MEDICAL AND HEALTHCARE FACILITIES
January 20, 2009

Station KGTF-DT will begin DTV television service from a site on Mt. Barrigada on or about February 8, 2009.  We will be broadcasting on DTV Channel 12.  We are notifying you because your facility may use biomedical telemetry devices that operate in the television broadcast band and may be affected when we begin our DTV service.

The rules of the Federal Communications Commission allow certain biomedical telemetry devices to use unoccupied DTV channels in their area on a secondary basis.  This means that the medical facility or operator of the device is responsible for resolving any interference problems that may arise with the DTV service or, alternatively, must cease its operation on that channel.

The purpose of this notice is to provide you information and a reasonable opportunity to resolve problems.  You may want to discuss this with your technology supplier if you believe that biomedical devices used in your facility are likely to malfunction when we begin our DTV operations.  Our station’s new technical operating details are as follows:

TV Station:                                        PBS Guam (KGTF)
DTV Channel:                                  12
Targeted on-air date:                   February 8, 2009
Effective Radiated Power:          54.7 kW
Antenna location:                         Mt. Barrigada (Barrigada Heights, Guam)
Antenna height:                             47.9 m (157 feet)

If you want to report anticipated or actual interference problems to PBS Guam, please contact Mesengei Diaz, TV Engineer, at 734-3718 or via email at mdiaz@pbsguam.org .
